Jane Billestrup: I'm currently working on several qualitative studies. Starting Phase 2 and data collection of an E-Government project about the digitalisation of the Danish municipalities. Also I am trying to write papers from all the data I have collected on several projects since fall 2012.

Jens Axel Adamsen: According to a recent report from the Danish Board of Digitisation, as much as 35% of still-going projects from 2011 or earlier have exceeded initial time estimates. To reduce losses, this project seeks to uncover and understand the operations of Danish e-Government projects. The project will analyse past scientific research to determine whether there are visible trends and consequently overlooked causes for failure. Based on these findings, surveys and interviews will then be employed to gain in-depth knowledge of the operations of Danish e-Government projects. The ultimate objective of the Ph.D. study is to contribute to preventing Danish e-Government project failure. As such it is expected to theoretically contribute to the research field of Information Systems Failure.

Asma Rafiq: I am involved in VR project, which focuses on the study of the significance of economic incentives for the choice of university education. My main role is centered around the online data collection part of the project. So, I am mainly looking at the online data collection methods including apps on social network sites, and online survey systems. I am developing further the boundary resources theory that relates to the former.

Charlotte J. Brandt: Large Scale Transformative Processes: The area of concern of this project is the dynamics of change at the organizational field level. The project will be researching large scale change initiatives from one organization aiming to change many organizations by implementing information systems (IS). Such an initiative can be rejected because implementing a system to leverage quality by standardizing a business process is likely to deprive the user – the former expert – of his or her professional pride; or the initiative can be accepted, because the industry community implies a mimetic pressure convincing organizations to do what other similar and successful organizations are doing. The purpose of this study is to analyze how organizations decides to react to a change initiative from another organization. As the aim of this study is to understand and explain rather than identify causal patterns and regularities this is a theory-building, exploratory research project.

Jinling Jiang: The project aims to fill the gap between the current research on geo-tagged social media and the relevant real-life needs. There are basically four elements in the geo-tagged social media: user, geospatial location, temporal timestamp and user-generated contents. There are explicit and
implicit connections between those four elements. For example, the social network maintains the explicit relationship between users forming a user-graph. At the same while, social connections could also be inferred by analysing people’s location information. As an example, people who are seen together frequently at the same place and at the same time are most probably socially related. The ultimate objective of this PhD project is to utilize the interrelationship among these four elements to design novel data management techniques for various application scenarios. Those applications may include some generic and personalized recommendations for users. There are several generic recommendations such as local experts searching and events detection. Meanwhile, based on the interests profile of each user, several personalized recommendations can be provided such as recommendations of interesting locations and potential friends of the same interest.

Nazli (Tara) Shahim: My research is about factors assessment of the business strategy called business process management (BPM). I assess the weight of BPM factors regarding their contribution to value creation within the company. In the next step, after finding the relative weights of factors and the critical important factors, the selected ones will be solo mapped. In this way quantification of interrelationships of factors including IT, culture, Strategic alliances, people, methods will be identified.

Lars Haahr: My Ph.D. project investigates how organizations cope with social media. The project include three dimensions: How organizations communicate outwards and inwards via social media, how organizations monitor and analyze social media activities, and last but not least how organizations manage their own social media practice. The theoretical and practical contribution will focus on how social media organizing is entangled in diverse inherent tensions, and must be approached accordingly: Are we able to better understand organizational social media practices if we conceptualize them as paradoxes? Can the paradoxical practices be managed through an ambidextrous approach? I started the empirical work with a pilot project where I made online observations to map the activity of the 100 largest Danish corporations on social media. Afterwards I interviewed 10 of the corporations. Thereafter I started an explorative case study of an organization that is recognized as a forerunner in social media. The case study includes online observation, interviews with 20 persons, and documents. Next and final empirical step in the Ph.D. project is under consideration: On the background of my initial field study and in depth case study, I would like to proceed with a more narrow focus through a focused set of questions to research. I would like to execute that approach in a multi case study of 3 corporations within the same industry or otherwise comparable setting. Feedback is more than welcome.

Zena Knudsen: this project aims to leverage Danish food company (DFC) 's supply chain potentials and develop a better business strategy, to cope with complexity in all stages of product lifecycle. This goal drives an innovative solution to trace food consistently and efficiently from farm to fork. This project will identify, evaluate and implement the next generation practices within supply chain traceability and the associated complex event data management. The project will analyze the possibility and potential of integrating the big data in-memory analytics approach into DFC's existing IT infrastructure. The goal here becomes leveraging the advanced technology into proactive supply chain capabilities.

Benjamin Kwofie: is researching on higher education institutions implementation of e-learning. The research is looking in-depth into the processes, decisions and actions that birth and institutionalize e-learning. The research seeks to understand and interpret from institutional point of view (top-down approach), how e-learning is introduced and institutionalized by examining the decisions and actions undertaken by the institutions. It is hoped the research will unravel what goes on within the institution (context), leading to institutionalization of e-learning.

Mohammad Ahsanul Haque: My PhD project is a part of Danish Patient@Home[1] project and aims to contribute to the solution of in-home medical diagnosis and automatic monitoring of people by analysis and development of signal processing methods (including both hardware and software), which may help to implement independent assisted living system and monitoring of patients at home. Among different directions of working, our area of interest is audio and facial image based diagnosis and monitoring of in-home patients. A number of challenges has to be addressed in order to develop these kind of systems using signal processing methods, such as, setting up an appropriate network of sensors for data acquisition, pre-processing of audio and facial image data, selecting the area of interest as a subset of captured data, extraction of appropriate features from the data, and employing effective machine learning methods to automatically detect clinically important factors from the captured data. The contribution of the project is expected to be an automatic, low-cost, non-intrusive and portable system for medical diagnosis and monitoring of in-home patients.

NIs Bornø: My overall topic is usability engineering. Today people are using several different computing platforms such as laptops, smart phones and tablets. These platforms are becoming mainstream and used by a wide variety of users within different contexts. This opens up for new exciting opportunities as well as new challenges for usability evaluations of software. Unfortunately usability practitioners rarely follow a systematically approach when conducting evaluations and the data is analyzed informal and according to lightweight and home-brewed approaches. As a result the quality of usability evaluations is often questionable and difficult to use when improving applications. My project has two primary aims: In the first part of the project I want to extend existing research on how developers perceive and conduct usability engineering in practice. Secondly I want to investigate if usability engineering can support or spawn new and innovative design ideas and changes and show how this can be implemented into practical software development.

Rislan Kanya: The research aim is to evaluate the effectiveness of Jigawa State Government ICT4D policy and conclude with some recommendations and guidelines for policy makers advancing an agenda for “ICT4D”. Jigawa State Government has employed many ICT intervention packages and policies for aiding development in the area of education, poverty alleviation, economic empowerment, reducing maternal mortality and public service reform. The policy is more than one decade now, no proper research was conducted to evaluate the viability of the policy as such this research will: Underpin issues associated with Jigawa State ICT4D policies. Analyse the shortfall between design expectations of the policy and implementation realities, and ascertain the current situation of the policy. Furthermore the research will evaluate whether the intervention packages employed meet the entire key stakeholder’s expectation or not, and conclude with some guidelines for the policy makers advancing the agenda for ICT4D.
