Introduction:

Welcome to Wireless Communicatons for the Internet of Things (IoT)

Description:
The rapid proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) applications is transforming both daily life and industrial operations, creating unprecedented demands on wireless communication systems. IoT devices exhibit diverse characteristics, communication requirements, and traffic patterns that challenge traditional network architectures and protocols. To meet these demands, wireless communication systems must evolve towards self-optimization and self-adaptation, leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and data-driven methods.This PhD course provides an in-depth review of:

  1. The theoretical foundations for designing efficient access protocols for wireless IoT;
  2. The challenges and opportunities of IoT-enabling technologies;
  3. Machine learning and data-driven techniques for enhanced IoT connectivity;
  4. Emerging communication architectures and infrastructures for IoT

In addition to lectures and discussions, the course features a practical session where students gain hands-on experience with NB-IoT data collection and analysis

Prerequisites: Participants are expected to have a basic understanding of wireless communication systems and protocols, including concepts such as multiple access, modulation, and link-layer mechanisms

Learning objectives:
The students will:

  1. Understand and analyze the challenges andopportunities of IoT-enabling technologies,
  2. Acquire the technical and theoretical basis to design efficient access protocols for large-scale IoT deployments,
  3. Apply data-driven and machine learning techniques to enhance IoT connectivity and network performance,
  4. Propose and justify innovative solutions to address current research challenges in wireless IoT communications.
