Description: The sixth generation of mobile systems (6G) is planned to be deployed in the early 2030s. While the design of 6G is still in its infancy, there is a general consensus that 6G must avoid being a direct evolution of 5G, merely providing higher throughput, lower latency, and a higher density of connected users. Therefore, numerous technologies are being developed to extend the capabilities of 6G towards more diverse KPIs, including ubiquitous and nearly uniform coverage, higher overall energy efficiency, integrating sensing and communications, granting self-optimization capabilities to the network infrastructure, and integrating new advances on quantum technologies. This course provides a comprehensive overview of the 6G roadmap and key technologies, including waveforms and schemes integrated sensing and communications (ISAC), machine learning for self-optimization and goal-oriented communications, non-terrestrial and 3D networks, distributed and centralized massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO), and quantum communications, among others.

Prerequisites: The students must be familiar with the basic concepts of wireless communications in one or more of the following areas: 1) propagation of radio waves; 2) wireless communications protocols at different layers; 3) network architectures and topologies.

Important information concerning PhD courses: We have over some time experienced problems with no-show for both project and general courses. It has now reached a point where we are forced to take action. Therefore, the Doctoral School has decided to introduce a no-show fee of DKK 3000 for each course where the student does not show up. Cancellations are accepted no later than 2 weeks before start of the course. Registered illness is of course an acceptable reason for not showing up on those days. Furthermore, all courses open for registration approximately four months before start. This can hopefully also provide new students a chance to register for courses during the year.
