Welcome to Personalized Telehealth - An Interdisciplinary Approach

Description

The Transatlantic Telehealth Research Network (TTRN) is dedicated to develop cutting-edge research and innovation within telehealth. The research is interdisciplinary (medicine, engineering, nursing, organizational, economic, policy) and focuses on developing new diagnostic, preventive care and treatment methods/technologies for patients in their own homes utilizing telehealth. Problem-based, user-driven innovation is a key issue in the international and interdisciplinary TTRN. This PhD course and graduate fellowship program has been developed within TTRN and will be held for the first time at Aalborg University in August 2017.

Objective

This course will give a comprehensive introduction to personalized telehealth in an interdisciplinary approach by addressing challenges in future personalized healthcare systems from design of new technologies, data mining and implementation to evaluation of telehealth programs at scale.

The learning goals for the students are:

  • To give students an insight into design, testing, implementation and evaluation of personalized telehealth, informatics and patient-centered technology for patients with chronic diseases

  • To give students the possibility to create networks with other PhD students and international researchers within telehealth and health informatics

Evaluation

Each student will be given the possibility to present their research project for 20 minutes and have 10 minutes of feedback from faculty and other participants at the course.

The students need to write a 5-page paper covering a topic within telehealth and new knowledge they have gained at the course in order to pass the course. The paper has to have the following structure: Introduction, research question, method, results/findings, discussion, conclusion, reference list and acknowledgement.

The paper has to be submitted to Birthe Dinesen (bid@hst.aau.dk) and Nick Anderson (nranderson@UCDAVIS.EDU) by September 30 2017. Birthe and Nick will send the papers to the relevant lectures for comments and assessment. The paper must be approved in order for you to pass the course.

Literature

On Moodle you can see and access literature for the lectures. Power points from the lectures will also be uploaded to Moodle.

Important information concerning PhD courses: We have over some time experienced problems with no-show for both project and general courses. It has now reached a point where we are forced to take action. Therefore, the Doctoral School has decided to introduce a no-show fee of DKK 5,000 for each course where the student does not show up. Cancellations are accepted no later than 2 weeks before start of the course. Registered illness is of course an acceptable reason for not showing up on those days. Furthermore, all courses open for registration approximately three months before start. This can hopefully also provide new students a chance to register for courses during the year. We look forward to your registrations.
