Welcome to Techniques in Histology and Immunohistochemistry
Description: The course will deal with theoretical and practical aspects of the most common methods used to investigate the microscopic appearance, structure and molecular composition of tissues and cells in the human body. These methods are widely used both in clinical medicine and biomedical research. At the completion of the course, the participants are expected to develop competence in laboratory techniques that are used to prepare, slice, stain, image, and evaluate tissues for use in their research. Basic considerations regarding general histological and histochemical stainings will be introduced, followed by introduction into immunohistochemical approaches used to reveal specific antigens. The visualization techniques will include brightfield and fluorescence microscopy. During the practical exercises there will be opportunity to carry out different types of staining, such as Mayer’s hematoxylin and eosin, immunoperoxidase or immunofluorescence stainings, and use microscopy to obtain the data. Selected issues regarding the digital processing and analysis of data will be addressed as well.

Important information concerning PhD courses: We have over some time experienced problems with no-show for both project and general courses. It has now reached a point where we are forced to take action. Therefore, the Doctoral School has decided to introduce a no-show fee of DKK 5,000 for each course where the student does not show up. Cancellations are accepted no later than 2 weeks before start of the course. Registered illness is of course an acceptable reason for not showing up on those days. Furthermore, all courses open for registration approximately three months before start. This can hopefully also provide new students a chance to register for courses during the year.
