Introduction
Welcome to Optimizing NMR Experiments - Interplay between Theory and Experimentation
Description:
The course will cover the basic parameters of NMR spectra and how their settings influence the outcome. Based upon the framework of NMR theory, the course will teach students how to set up and process NMR spectra so that they provide the maximum desired information and at the same time avoid wasting experiment time.
The course will introduce principal parameters of acquisition and their influence on the resulting spectra, principles of pulse programming, principles of AU programming, and the basic use of data processing, i.e. FT, apodization, manual integration, NUS.
The course will be taught with the focus on BRUKER NMR experiments – while the concepts apply on spectra across different vendors, the specific examples will all be from the BRUKER world.
The course will have a practical component, demonstrating the effects of (mis)setting experimental parameters on real-life datasets. Users are encouraged to bring samples from their research projects, if possible.
There will be a small user fee to cover costs of the practical work.
Evaluation:
The participants will agree on a topic from the course with the teachers, where the participant will work on an active improvement of an existing experiment, either by changing the experimental parameters, making small adjustments to the pulse program or writing an AU-program for data processing and evaluation. The improvement is then documented in a report.
