Title: From ICU to a general ward. – Electronic transfer of knowledge.

Aim: This project aims to optimize the collaboration between the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and a general ward when patients are transferred from the ICU to the general ward and focuses on how this vulnerable situation can be supported by an Electronic Whiteboard (EW) and a mobile version (Morten Brandrup´s project), hence reducing the mortality, morbidity and general length of stay (LOS) for this sensitive group of patients.

Methods/design: Participatory design – workshops are being held at an ICU and three general wards at an acute hospital in Region Zealand. The health care staff will be specifying the desired effect specific for their ward, designing the prototype of an electronic care giving plan specific for the initial 24 h after the transfer and finally testing and evaluating the prototype. The researcher will be supporting the health care staff in the process. The project will be using an action research design method as the researcher has a specific wish regards to effects which might differ from the end-users´ (not entirely specified yet). Action research is also used in this project because of the great understanding and respect of multi-cultural societies and the desired social change. Representatives from the wards included will be closely involved in the process with the researcher (and Morten B.) where the problems in the transferring situation will be addressed and the suggested solutions represented to the five involved wards.
