Modern electronic devices such as laptops, smartphones, PDAs, touchscreens, vending machines, digital television sets, public displays, intelligent watches desktop etc. have increased. These devices provide users the facility, to interact with appliances for specific needs with User Interfaces. These devices are becoming smarter day by day, with more advance features such as sensors and applications that utilize the sensors information. To fully utilize the electronic devices around users, scientists and IT experts are developing applications to interact with distributed electronic devices to use the resources of other devices. One of the key investigating areas is to allow devices to use the resources of surrounding devices on-the-fly for its applications. This field is theoretically and technically well developed, and includes a rich base of experience. There are however, still areas with little experience on automation of the application migration between interacting devices in surroundings. Automatic triggering of application migration faces a number of challenges: preserving application state information, changing network connectivity, application compatibility, and reliability of automatic migration and devices configurations.
The project focuses on analysis and evaluation of application migration using contextual information in distributed environment. How application migration is affected by heterogonous devices and in different network conditions. It also investigates how to maintain states and session of the application after resuming its operation on target device without using a centralized server.
Action research can play bring the researcher and the real world together and get solution to the existing problem under the supervision of both researcher and problem owner. I consider it a strong candidate for carrying out research for my work.
