Description
This is the twenty-second annual international Ph.D. course on the translational neurobiology of the pain system. The purpose of the course is to give an introduction to different aspects of the neurobiology of the pain system and to initiate new co-operation in interdisciplinary pain research. This year the course will focus on postoperative pain and pain neuroplasticity.

The course is arranged as a one-day course in connection with the SASP2017 Conference taking place in Aalborg on 26 April 2017. The lectures will be given by staff from SMI (Aalborg University), Center for Neuroplasticity and Pain (Aalborg University), and by invited international key scientists within the area.

Prerequisites
A basic understanding of pain mechanisms, for update see Textbook of Pain, 5th edition, Section 1: Neurobiology of Pain. Selected chapters from Musculoskeletal Pain, IASP Press (2014).

Fee
A participation fee of DKK 500 will be charged for catering.

Please also register at the SASP2017 registration site as the Ph.D. course is held in connection with the SASP2017 Annual Meeting 2017.

 

Abstract
Participants must send an abstract for a short oral poster presentation. See below information regarding the posters.

  • The deadline for abstract submissions is 20 March 2017
  • The abstract used for this Ph.D. course does not have to be submitted to the SASP2017 Annual Meeting, but you are allowed to reuse any abstract you have submitted to SASP2017
  • Abstracts may be based on original research data, preliminary data, study proposal or literature review
  • Abstracts must be uploaded as a Word file in the Abstracts section below  
  • Use Times New Roman, size 12, line spacing one, maximum 300 words. See below for a model abstract and for further instructions
  • The abstract file must be named SASP Ph.D. course followed by participant name (e.g. SASP Ph.D. course John Doe.docx)

Presenting the abstract/poster at the Ph.D. course 
The abstract is to be presented at the Ph.D. course as a short presentation (max duration will be informed later) of the poster that you bring.

The size of your poster should not exceed 97 cm (width) x 150 cm (height). 

You are allowed to re-use the poster you are to present at the SASP Annual Meeting.

Feedback on the presentations will be given by a group of peers, senior researchers and presenters at the course.

Important information concerning PhD courses:

We have over some time experienced problems with no-show for both project and general courses. It has now reached a point where we are forced to take action. Therefore, the Doctoral School has decided to introduce a no-show fee of DKK 5,000 for each course where the student does not show up. Cancellations are accepted no later than 2 weeks before start of the course. Registered illness is of course an acceptable reason for not showing up on those days. Furthermore, all courses open for registration approximately three months before start. This can hopefully also provide new students a chance to register for courses during the year. We look forward to your registrations.
