Welcome to Advanced Topics in Translational Neuroscience


Description: Translational Neuroscience applies findings from fundamental laboratory research relating to nervous system structure and function to development of new therapies for neuro-pathological disorders following a mechanistic approach. Translational neuroscience is a rapidly advancing area of biomedical research with massive therapeutic and commercial potential. Translational neuroscience aims at the integration of molecular and cellular approaches, behavioural analysis, and clinical applications in the study of the central nervous system. The course offers training into fundamental aspects of translational neuroscience encompassing molecular, cellular, anatomical and behavioural levels and draws on examples from model organism and patient-based studies. The course combines neurobiology and neuro-psychology to provide a thorough training in the main concepts and methods of translational medicine, with a particular focus on unmet needs in diseases of the nervous system and the challenge of clinical trial design and the regulatory environment for developing better therapies. The translational approach of the course is interdisciplinary and includes a highly diverse set of advanced topics including but not limited to:

  • omics in neuroscience
  • neuronal-glial signalling and plasticity
  • sensory and computational neuroscience
  • neuromodulation
  • neuroimaging
  • neuro- degeneration and regeneration
  • neuropharmacology
  • cognitive and clinical neuroscience

Literature Selected papers and book chapters will be announced to the participants shortly before the course.

Prerequisites Basic knowledge of neuroscience.

Evaluation The course will be evaluated based on written essays of selected topics.

Important information concerning PhD courses We have over some time experienced problems with no-show for both project and general courses. It has now reached a point where we are forced to take action. Therefore, the Doctoral School has decided to introduce a no-show fee of DKK 5,000 for each course where the student does not show up. Cancellations are accepted no later than 2 weeks before start of the course. Registered illness is of course an acceptable reason for not showing up on those days. Furthermore, all courses open for registration approximately three months before start. This can hopefully also provide new students a chance to register for courses during the year.
