Welcome to Urban Food Policy and Systems
Description:
The study of existing and new urban food networks is relatively new in Denmark and many other Nordic countries. AAU-FINe have offered a series of PhD course since 2011 as a consequence of the establishing of this new food studies research domain in Denmark.
The focus of the 2016 course will be on the development of sustainable urban food systems covering policy process, network and governance theories – in the contexts of food and commonsality. Reflections on both theoretical perspectives and methodological approaches are relevant for students involved in such studies.
The course aims at:
- Providing an overview over major theoretical perspectives in urban food policy and networks
- Presenting state-of-the-art methodological approaches for the study of policy processes and networks in modern urban food chains and networks
- Discuss and reflect on student’s methodological design related to food systems and networks
The course will provide lectures and workshops where students will have the opportunity to present, discuss and get feed-back on their study design and aims.
Students are expected to send in a description of their study design, including a formulation of selected points where they have difficulties that they are specifically interested in feed-back from the lecturers.
A detailed program will be available in the end of February. This will include a more detailed template for formulating the preparation of their project description.

Important information concerning PhD courses: We have over some time experienced problems with no-show for both project and general courses. It has now reached a point where we are forced to take action. Therefore, the Doctoral School has decided to introduce a no-show fee of DKK 5,000 for each course where the student does not show up. Cancellations are accepted no later than 2 weeks before start of the course. Registered illness is of course an acceptable reason for not showing up on those days. Furthermore, all courses open for registration approximately three months before start. This can hopefully also provide new students a chance to register for courses during the year. We look forward to your registrations.
