Introduction: Welcome to Lipids – From Lab to Clinical Setting
Description:
A 2 day course with focus on lipid biochemistry, laboratory issues, genetics, atherosclerosis and the role of dyslipidaemia in vascular disease.
Day 1 will focus on lipid biochemistry, laboratory measures of plasma lipids and lipoproteins and their clinical use. Furthermore the use of molecular genetics will be presented and discussed. Finally, the role of diet and fatty acids for vascular disease will be reviewed.
Day 2 will focus on disease states caused by/with a major contribution from dyslipidaemia including vascular disease, genetic disorders eg. familial hypercholesterolaemia, pancreatitis and hepatic steatosis. Prevention of treatment of these diseases will be reviewed, illustrated and discussed by patient cases.
