Description:
This course provides a case-based introduction to universal notions encountered in quantitative clinical research. The focus is on conceptual understanding and intuition rather than specific techniques and calculations. Participants will gain insight into how to translate a clinical question into a statistical question - and how to translate the statistical answer back into a clinically meaningful result. Participants will also become more proficient at reading and assessing the quality of medical research papers that rely on statistics.

Topics covered will include the following:

1) Using statistics effectively in the student's research

2) Effect measures and confidence intervals

3) Hypothesis testing and P-values
