Description:
The aim is to improve the participants' competence in writing and reviewing scientific papers. The course takes a practical approach and focuses on the craftsmanship needed as a scientist. It is recommended that this course is taken during the first period of a PhD study. PhD students from all areas of engineering and science can benefit from attending, although the course to some extent favors "hard science" disciplines. The discussions will address general issues related to scientific writing. The course is organised in three activities. First, the PhD students are asked to study selected literature on the subject. Second, two one-day seminars are devoted to presentations by the organisers, discussions amongst participants, and lectures by invited speakers. Third, the PhD students are required to practice both writing and reviewing in specially designed exercises. A collection of papers will be distributed before the course. In addition, a reading list of relevant books and papers is given.

NB! Please observe that attendance is absolutely mandatory throughout the two dates mentioned above. Participants, who are absent during part of one or both of these two dates will not receive any credits.

Important information concerning PhD courses

We have over some time experienced problems with no-show for both project and general courses. It has now reached a point where we are forced to take action. Therefore, the Doctoral School has decided to introduce a no-show fee of DKK 5,000 for each course where the student does not show up. Cancellations are accepted no later than 2 weeks before start of the course. Registered illness is of course an acceptable reason for not showing up on those days. Furthermore, all courses open for registration approximately three months before start. This can hopefully also provide new students a chance to register for courses during the year. We look forward to your registrations.
