Description: The course will focus on basic concepts in functional analysis,
such as Hilbert spaces, linear operators and their basic spectral theory and proceed to describe the realm of distribution theory. Through a number of specific examples, we shall emphasise the applications to e.g. signal processing, physics and partial differential equations, depending on the interests of the participants.
Prerequisites include a thorough knowledge of linear algebra and classical mathematical analysis, e.g.\ from the course “Advanced mathematics for
Ph.D. Candidates in the engineering science: analysis and topology”.
