Description: This course will cover epidemiological concepts like causal theory, confounding and other systematic errors, and interaction (effect modification) in details. The aim is to understand how and why the validity of results might be endangered. Focus will be on practical development of analytic strategy for examining and adjusting results of epidemiological studies and on performing multivariate data analyses.

Statistical models covered will include linear, logistic and proportional hazard regression, and participants will learn to address model assumptions and control. Other types of modelling like Poisson, multinominal and spline regression will be presented.

The participants will gain hands-on experience in group work from provided datasets, developing analytic strategies, performing analyses and presenting the results. Analyses will be performed in standard statistical packages like SPSS, STATA, SAS or R depending on the requirement of participants (questionnaire will be sent out before the course).

Prerequisites: Skills corresponding to basic epidemiology and basic statistical courses.
