Description:

The course presents methods of design of three different types of studies: 1) basic research (application of the scientific and disciplined inquiry approach to the study of basic problems = explaining and understanding principles); 2) applied research (application of the scientific and disciplined inquiry approach to the study of specific problems = explain and understand an engineering problem); and 3) clinical research (application of the scientific and disciplined inquiry approach to the study of application of clinical problems = understanding how basic findings can be translated into the health care). The presentations will provide details about scientific and disciplined inquiry approaches: 1) recognizing and identifying a question or a problem to be studied, 2) describing and executing procedures to collect information about the questions and problems being studied, 3) analyzing the collected information, and 4) stating the results or implications based on the analysis of the information.
