Description: The power quality in Microgrids and electrical distribution systems is one of the most important concerns. Thus, power quality problems such as harmonics and unbalances should be studied and compensated, properly. The course starts with a single power electronics converter to deals with the power quality at the common point of connection. Then, the controllers are extended to distributed dc-ac inverters acting like shunt active filters. Selective harmonic virtual impedance concept is presented to share harmonics at first and then to attenuate harmonics. Cooperative control based on variable harmonic impedance to attenuate harmonics in Microgrids will be designed, tested and analyzed in the course. Voltage unbalance and harmonic distortion will be mitigated at the point of common coupling by using hierarchical and distributed controllers.
Prerequisites: Matlab/Simulink knowledge is recommended for the exercises.
