Description: Doctoral students who have interest in how their technological insights, skills and experience can be transformed into business is the target group for this PhD course. Based upon new knowledge the course will introduce the students to the main positions within Theories of Multi Business Models, Multi Business Model and Technology Innovation, Multi Business Model and Technology Integration, Multi Business Model and Technology Innovation Leadership and Strategy.
A new framework will be presented and represents from the industry - who already has tested the framework - will illustrate how it works. Point of departure is that students are introduced to the concept of global business eco-systems and how the global reference is a must for any business in order to become and stay competitive within the market. Based upon a three leveled definition on technology – product technology,  production technology, and process  technology – the concrete technological content in each ph.d.-project will be connected to the theoretical framework and give the students inputs to integrate a multi business and technology dimension into their PhD project.
The end goal is that course participants will increase their level of reflexivity of themselves as ‘multi business model and technology knowledge producers’.
The course is specially designed for students in the middle of their PhD-studies and it aims at: Offering an overview of the main assumptions and issues at stake when integrating the multi business model and technology approach into the students PhD-project. Providing a frame for discussing the students’ own methodological design an providing feedback on students’ problems and necessities regarding their methodological design

The course takes its point of departure in philosophic and epistemological positions within philosophy of science and the fact that Business Model and Technology theory lacks a theoretical hard core in the Lakatos sense. A particular attention will be directed towards different positions in the on-going research process. A new framework is presented, where the ambition is to work towards a holistic theory, which intend to be both academic solid and practical useful in the identification of new modes for business and technology knowledge production.
Course participants will receive a list of literature for the course and during the course more material will be presented and discussed. The course will mix lectures by the teachers and representatives from the industry with student presentations of theoretical aspects of their projects. Besides, two other activities will take place. First of all the students must organize themselves into groups under supervision of the teachers. The aim is during workshops to prepare a presentation of a rough outline of a paper which combine their PhD project with the multi business model innovation and technology framework. The purpose is that the students after the course send a final paper which will be doubled blinded reviewed by the editorial board of Journal of Multi Business Model Innovation and Technology, River Publishers. Accepted papers will be published in a special issue of the Journal. The second activity will be integrated in the program during the whole course. We will walk and talk, visit a local industry and integrate ourselves into the wild nature of Cold Hawaii – the name has reference to surfing because the waves in Klitmøller have the same quality as the waves in the Hawaii, USA. However, the water is colder.
Theory of science is important and at the course the framework will be presented with its reference to linear and co-evolutionary thinking. Because the notion of multi business model and technology is a new research field with a lack of solid theoretical reference the idea of methodology and the idea of a theoretical hard core will be presented. Besides, our workshop we will investigate which kind of scientific methodology the students have in their project – Point of reference in the workshop is: From positivism to anarchism (the latter is the Feyerabend methodology).
As such the course is meant to offer students an opportunity to reflect on their theoretical and conceptual assumptions, as well as obtain an understanding of the various theoretical positions related to how technology interact with business and the market. This is expected to be integrated in the process where the students immediately after the course is expected to deliver a paper based on their presentation and the integration of the multi business model and technology framework.
The course participants must have the ambition to actively participate in all the course activities in the form of presentations, group discussions, workshops, lectures, social events and writing a paper with fellow students.

Application and Principles for election of applicants:
The applicant must write an application with one page of their motivation to get the course and 2 pages which present their project and e.g. how their PhD-project may benefit from the course.
PhD students from Aalborg University, Denmark and Stanford University, USA are prior to participate.
Important information concerning PhD courses
We have over some time experienced problems with no-show for both project and general courses. It has now reached a point where we are forced to take action. Therefore, the Doctoral School has decided to introduce a no-show fee of DKK 5,000 for each course where the student does not show up. Cancellations are accepted no later than 2 weeks before start of the course. Registered illness is of course an acceptable reason for not showing up on those days. Furthermore, all courses open for registration approximately three months before start. This can hopefully also provide new students a chance to register for courses during the year. We look forward to your registrations.

During the course we have workshops, where course participants will be asked to analyze real dilemmas taken from the intersection between technology and market – often taking the experiences of individual researchers and the industry as the starting point for the analysis.

4. All participants present their PhD project following the principles for Start-Ups in Silicon Valley when they search for venture capital for their business – each have a clear cut session for 5 minutes.
5. Workshop I – a first discussion for how to group the participants with reference to find a meaningful relation between the framework just introduced and the different PhD projects.
