Description: Multiple antenna systems have revolutionized wireless communications by allowing the exploitation of the space dimension for performance optimization. The origins of adaptive antenna systems can be traced to the first macro-diversity systems, but the more complex multiple input- multiple output (MIMO) systems promises further potency in space domain exploitation. This course will address the expected benefits of systems deploying multi port adaptive antennas in terms of capacity in the single and multiple user sense, and will describe the challenges in the design and evaluation of such communication systems. The topics include:
• Low complexity space domain algorithms(time reversal, physical layer security schemes) • Effect of imperfect channel state information • Basic MIMO and space time-coding • Advances in MIMO and space-time coding
Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of mathematics, statistics and probability theory, as obtained through MSc engineering studies at Aalborg University, is expected. Some wireless radio channel knowledge is beneficial, like obtained in course 1) Antennas, Antenna Systems - and Propagation Channels
