Description: The computational complexity of many digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms, e.g., as applied in state-of-the-art wireless handsets and other similar types of portable devices, is increasing significantly faster than the improvements in the energy density of rechargeable batteries. Therefore, today the power consumption in digital circuits is regarded as one of the most challenging design and competitive parameters for portable and embedded DSP systems. As a consequence, power- and battery-aware analysis, design, and optimization in digital systems, hardware and software, are all important disciplines in the modern design trajectory for real-time DSP systems.
