Description
This PhD course is intended to provide the students with principles of neuromodulation, non-invasive and invasive, with underlying mechanisms relating electrical stimuli and various neural structures. Various applications for different forms for therapies and replacing/restoration of impaired neural functions will be presented.

The topics covered include, however not limited to:

·         peripheral nerve field stimulation,

·         spinal cord and dorsal root ganglion stimulation,

·         vagus nerve stimulation,

·         cochlear and retinal stimulation

·         referred sensation areas stimulation

·         brain stimulation for cognitive functions

·         pudendal nerve stimulation, how different temporal patterns can be used for treatment of incontinence and retention (not being able to void)

Literature:
Knotkova, Helena, Rasche, Dirk Textbook of Neuromodulation Principles, Methods and Clinical Applications.
Selected papers will be indicated during the course.

Prerequisites:
Basic understanding of anatomy and physiology, principles of stimulation techniques.

Evaluation:

Important information concerning PhD courses:
We have over some time experienced problems with no-show for both project and general courses. It has now reached a point where we are forced to take action. Therefore, the Doctoral School has decided to introduce a no-show fee of DKK 3.000 for each course where the student does not show up. Cancellations are accepted no later than 2 weeks before start of the course. Registered illness is of course an acceptable reason for not showing up on those days. Furthermore, all courses open for registration approximately four months before start. This can hopefully also provide new students a chance to register for courses during the year.
We look forward to your registrations.
