Welcome to Atmospheres of Mobilities (2021)
Description: Across disciplines such as anthropology, sociology, human geography, architecture, urban design and many more awareness of the role of atmosphere and ambiance has been rising over the last decade. In this three-day course we invite PhD students within these fields and disciplines (as well as related ones) to join us in reflecting on the relation between atmospheres and mobilities. The so-called ‘mobilities turn’ has drawn attention to the significance of mobilities and immobilities of people, vehicles, goods, and data in order to make sense of an interconnected world in constant motion. The spaces, sites, architectures, infrastructures, and technologies of mobilites all present unique and meaningful atmospheres ripe for analysis and intervention. The course will focus on how to think about mobility atmospheres on three levels.
Organizer: Professor Ole B. Jensen - obje@create.aau.dk
Lecturers: Ole B. Jensen and Professor Phillip Vannini (Royal Roads Uni, Canada)
ECTS: 3.0
Time: 4-6 October 2021
Place: Rendsburggade 14
Zip code: 9000
City: Aalborg
Number of seats: 15
Deadline: 13 September 2021
Important information concerning PhD courses: We have over some time experienced problems with no-show for both project and general courses. It has now reached a point where we are forced to take action. Therefore, the Doctoral School has decided to introduce a no-show fee of DKK 3.000 for each course where the student does not show up. Cancellations are accepted no later than 2 weeks before start of the course. Registered illness is of course an acceptable reason for not showing up on those days. Furthermore, all courses open for registration approximately four months before start. This can hopefully also provide new students a chance to register for courses during the year. We look forward to your registrations.

Thinking Atmospheres of Mobilities (lectures and readings on theorizing/framing/conceptualizing atmospheres)
Capturing Atmospheres of Mobilities (lectures and readings on methods and empirical fieldwork approaches)
Doing Atmospheres of Mobilities (workshop assignment where the participants must propose an ‘atmospheric’ Mobilities intervention or experiment in relation to a given empirical case)
The course will be a mix of lectures, student presentations, workshops and plenary discussions. Active participation is a condition for passing the course. There is a moderate amount of readings that is expected to be read before the course. The course is open to anyone with a Master within a relevant academic program.
