Description: The course consists of a lectures given by international experts in different aspects of Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) accompanied by a series of hands-on exercises. The course will span 3 days. To fulfill the course requirements, the participants have to attend the lectures, practical sessions and submit a final report presenting the results of the practical exercises along with the relevant theory.

  • Fundamentals of AFM imaging
  • AFM technology
  • AFM scanning modes
  • Determination of mechanical properties of 2D materials with AFM.

2 hour lecture on

  • Deposition and imaging of biomolecules

2 hour lecture on

  • Quantitative Nanomechanical Imaging of Biological Materials.

2 hour lecture on

  • Scanning probe microscopy for electrical characterization

  • Design and fabrication of AFM cantilevers
  • Blind deconvolution algorithms and their application for topography reconstruction
  • Tip-surface interaction and force distance curves

 

- Hands-on workshop of deposition and imaging of biomolecules, 4 hours, supervised by Prof. Alexander Kotlyar (TAU)

- Hands-on workshop on AFM imaging and data processing, 4 hours, supervised by Assoc. Profs. Peter Fojan and Leonid Gurevich

- Hands-on workshop on electrical characterization with AFM, 4 hours, supervised by Assoc. Prof. Vladimir Popok

Important information concerning PhD courses: We have over some time experienced problems with no-show for both project and general courses. It has now reached a point where we are forced to take action. Therefore, the Doctoral School has decided to introduce a no-show fee of DKK 3.000 for each course where the student does not show up. Cancellations are accepted no later than 2 weeks before start of the course. Registered illness is of course an acceptable reason for not showing up on those days. Furthermore, all courses open for registration approximately four months before start. This can hopefully also provide new students a chance to register for courses during the year. We look forward to your registrations.
