The course will cover the basic concepts of survival analysis. This includes the topics:
• Incidence and risk
• Epidemiological context of analysis of waiting times
• Kaplan-Meier curves
• Comparison of survival between two groups
• Regression models for rates
• Hazard function and cumulative hazard function (Nelson-Aalen)
• Proportional hazards model (Cox regression)
• Model diagnostics
• Delayed entry and choice of time scales
• Competing risks
• More advanced regression modeling (adjustment, splines, trend, effect modification, etc.)
The participants are expected to be familiar with basic aspects of the statistical software package STATA or similar. In the course, we will show examples in Stata with a specific focus on interpretation and reporting of results.
During the course, a number of practical exercises will be given that the students are expected to work on between course sessions. The choice of statistical software for the exercise is free and we will organize question time between course sessions.

Important information concerning PhD courses: We have over some time experienced problems with no-show for both project and general courses. It has now reached a point where we are forced to take action. Therefore, the Doctoral School has decided to introduce a no-show fee of DKK 5,000 for each course where the student does not show up. Cancellations are accepted no later than 2 weeks before start of the course. Registered illness is of course an acceptable reason for not showing up on those days. Furthermore, all courses open for registration approximately three months before start. This can hopefully also provide new students a chance to register for courses during the year. We look forward to your registrations.
