Workshop: Research Impact Canvas – From Research to Reality

Description

interreg.pngSFS2logo%20%281%29.png

In most cases, the value of the different impacting aspects of your research is dependent upon the particular stakeholder. Many researchers find it difficult to transform their research questions and activities to formulate the impact value (i.e. value for the society). The Research Impact Canvas tool has been developed to support a researcher in his or her intellectual process to pinpoint what in the research project that has an impact value and for whom a specific impact value is of relevance.

If you would like to explore an idea of yours, and how it can potentially have an impact outside of research, then join the workshop.

In this workshop we will guide you through the Research Impact Canvas starting at your present spot in your research project and ending up with a good idea of what assets you have in your research project and a pitch for a relevant stakeholder.

Workshop: Pitching – how to be convincing!

interreg.pngSFS2logo%20%281%29.png

Description

Learn how to frame and phrase your research – and to pitch it in the most attractive way, understandable to most people.

The purpose of the workshop is to help PhD students and researchers present their ideas to interested people outside one’s own special field of interest. The point of learning the art of Pitching, is beyond matters of ‘presentation technique’. When we present something we are very familiar with, to people who already have basic understanding of what the idea is about, it is relatively easy. However, presenting an idea to someone who might not have the insights that you do, is a skill that can be and usually should be practised more than once. Pitching is the art form of convincing people one has never met before, into seeing why an idea is a good idea. The term ‘Pitching’ is linked to concepts of entrepreneurship and selling, but is equally applicable in regular jobs and more diverse situations in everyday lives.

The workshop consists of general introductions to what good pitches contain and what things to avoid, followed by practising the skill.

Inspiration Event

Background:

AAU Innovation is hosting inspirational events for researchers. Each event focuses on commercialising ideas from research, and the events are themed. However, you can participate even if the theme is not specifically relevant for you.

The theme for September 2019 is Life Sciences.

Description:

The purpose of the event is to inspire PhD. students, postdocs and faculty staff into commercialising ideas from research. Commercialising is not necessarily a matter of creating new start-ups, but also includes implementing new processes in e.g. the public sector.

A researcher does not necessarily have to create a new start-up, but might collaborate with students or external actors and together make it real.

This event includes short inspirational talks from different researchers who have been able to find practical applications of ideas derived from research. The participants of the event have an opportunity to explore the different pathways of entrepreneurship, interact with those that have experiences as well as meet the supporting staff at AAU who are ready to assist in such endeavours.

AAU hosts different events, workshops and activities, where participants can explore opportunities in entrepreneurship.
