Industrial Digital Tools for Circular Economy

Introduction

Welcome to Industrial Digital Tools for Circular Economy

Description:

The course aims at providing concrete examples of use of Industrial digital tools for enhancing circularity and discussing what transformation this does, which impact on sustainability it will provide, and which challenges this will give. The course will take its departure in presenting cases of technology use, data and trust, and analyses about users interests in the concept of digital tools. The implementation of digital wallets as DPP as well as AIoT raises several questions, such as which technologies to use, how to integrate stakeholders, which are the data to be included and how can they be shared in a secure way, which data are consumers interested in knowing about, and does this raise awareness about circularity and sustainable development? The course will look at the industrial digital tools from different angles: regulatory perspectives, the supply side including business models, as well as the demand side of the tools and products. These angles will allow the course participants to understand theoretical drivers and trends that drive the digitalization and pave the way towards circularity.

The course will discuss these questions based on the cases presented, literature and the Ph.D. participants’ own work.

The course is built on PBL principles, where there is emphasis on learning through reflection and active establishment of ideas for solutions to some of the questions. Over 2 days, the Ph.D. participants will meet to discuss their own work, case studies, and literature on digital tools, sustainability and digital transformation as well as the questions, challenges etc. Researchers will present ideas, questions, cases, and will support the students’ thinking and discussions. Physical attendance of the Ph.D. participants will be spent on group work, discussion sessions and workshops around topics that will be identified in plenum on the first day of the Ph.D. course.

As an outcome of the Ph.D. course, the Ph.D. participant will be able to critically reflect on own work in relation to circularity and a sustainable, digital transformation, and point to various solutions to selected questions.

Prerequisites: The course welcomes participants with an interest in digital transformation, sustainable design, and circularity. The course is however open to all participants with backgrounds in either IT or design or any similar.
